Welcome to Surf to Skate, a collector’s book that features extremely rare and historically important skateboards that we have scavenged from all corners of the globe. We have assembled the following pages in a timeline fashion, tracing the roots of skateboarding from the steel roller skate wheels, nailed to planks of wood in the 1950’s to their clay-wheeled cousins of the 1960’s. For many of you, this book will serve as a trip down memory lane. To others, it might give you a better sense of skateboarding’s early roots and colorful history. If these boards could talk, they would have some amazing stories to tell, but since they can’t, we have put pen to paper and done the talking for them. Whether you ride a skateboard today or appreciate them as an art form, we simply hope that you savor what you see and pass it on. Enjoy the ride.
